Opinion | Gains and Losses: Dr. Bob and the Realities of Aging

He Looks in the Mirror: At 75, He’s Wondering if Biden and Trump Can Say the Same” (front page, April 10), about Dr. Bob Ross, who cares for the residents of Ortonville, Minn.:Like Dr. Bob, I’m an aging, but still active, physician. I fully agree that at 83 I wouldn’t be fit to lead this country. Some qualities are lost with age, some are gained with age, and some are just intrinsic irrespective of age. To the Editor:A beautiful story about an aging doctor who is a marvelous man. Indeed, an uplifting personal story that stands on its own, untainted by the political chaos that drags us down.

Entertainment companies face a generation problem, with Gen Z shunning TV shows and movies over social video and livestreams. A new startup is pitching a solution by bringing TV to Gen Z where and how they already watch, rather than trying to train them in a new habit. The company, Gaggl TV, licenses TV shows and distributes them to creators to watch with their followers on social platforms. In a deal with Fremantle, Gaggl got the rights to old TV shows like '70s-era "The Price is Right: The Barker Era" and is distributing them to five Twitch streamers. "TV companies just put stuff on Twitch and don't realize it's the creators people are coming to see," Harris said.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — What would Bob Ross think? Growing up in a small town, Nelson said he was introduced to art through Ross' show and loves his paintings. “This isn’t an institution that’s telling you that Bob Ross is great. It’s not some high-brow gallery telling you that Bob Ross is great. Nelson bought the painting last year and then gave it a “not for sale” price of $9.85 million, said publicist Megan Hoffman.

CNN —It’s hard to quantify the value of painter and all-around cultural icon Bob Ross, but $9.85 million is a good start. The very first on-air painting from the very first episode of Ross’ beloved series “The Joy of Painting” is looking for a new owner after being kept safe for decades by one of the show’s early volunteers. It has been verified as authentic by Bob Ross Inc.A close-up of the work shows Ross' iconic signature. Modern ArtifactModern Artifact owner Ryan Nelson said Ross’ work has seen increasing demand over the years. “The driving force behind the increased demand for Bob Ross paintings seems to be collectors themselves,” Nelson said in a statement.

Meet these unintentional ASMR celebrities

ASMR videos come in all shapes and sizes. Although the content of ASMR videos varies tremendously, what remains consistent is the physical impact they have on viewers who are susceptible to them. Despite the work these creators put into their videos, accidental ASMR is one of the most popular sub-genres for viewers. The dominance of this setup amongst ASMR fans may all be down to the legacy of one man who is a legend among fans of accidental ASMR, but was, for a very long time, completely unaware of ASMR’s existence. Scroll through the comments section of most ASMR videos, and it won’t be long until you find people referencing a line spoken by Kelly.

When folks ask me what movies I’ve seen lately that I like, I always respond with enthusiasm. Ten minutes later, when I’m out of breath, comes the inevitable response: “Well, I’ve never heard of that one,” people always say, eyeing me with suspicion, as though I might have imagined the entire experience. “Paint,” whose marketing budget appears to be in the pennies, is my current answer. It’s unlikely to rival “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” for brand awareness. However, it is the year’s sweetest cinematic surprise so far, containing much of the childlike tenderness and dry whimsy of a Wes Anderson film, minus that director’s sometimes-suffocating obsession with surfaces.
CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Last November, at about midnight, Omid was lying in bed in his new home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine — exhausted, but unable to sleep. On this night, and on many nights during Omid's first few months in Maine, Nasir was soon at his door. Omid's family arrived in Maine just before Halloween in 2021 and recently celebrated one year in Maine. Catholic Charities, the local refugee-resettlement organization in Maine, was working with Omid's family to help them resettle. After Omid's family escaped Kabul, members of his extended family came by to collect some of their more precious items, and gave other things away.
